Urban Jungle garden
This project was designed for a client whose main goal was to have somewhere nice to sit in. Somewhere that’s lush, serene and feels like an escape.
The existing garden is a small, charming space with overbearing evergreen shrubs that have grown almost into trees that feel like they’re encroaching into the space and leaves no area to relax in.
The goal of this project was to introduce a retreat area to sit comfortably and look back at the garden with a feeling of safety and serenity.
We would use tree ferns (Dicksonia antartica) as well as other deciduous trees such as Gingko biloba and Gleditsia triacanthos to give the garden a feeling of maturity and verticality. The ground canopy would be covered in planting intended to mimic a rainforest understory such as ferns and other plants with lush green leaves and textures.
We would use reclaimed Balau decking boards as step-planks to access the retreat area in the corner. An Oak pergola in the corner. Smothered by a lush green vine that will make you feel always as though the planting surrounds you.
We would clad the retaining walls with cor-ten steel panels to get a lovely patina as you look out and also achieve a layering of materials that’s so important to the client.
This is a project we hope to complete in Summer of 2026.
